CASE STUDY
Mercy Corps’ Transform Program
Semarang, Indonesia
The EI platform’s modules were used to diagnose flood hazards and assess the cost benefit of landscape interventions in Semarang, Indonesia. The model outputs provided an analytical justification for moving towards nature-based solutions to improve landscape condition and quality of life for local communities.
The project identified a series of landscape interventions that could be installed by local residents and quantified the costs and benefits of integrating nature-based interventions into future landscape development within the municipality.
Through use of the benefit quantification models, the team was able to show that nature-based solutions peppered throughout the landscape would provide significant flood mitigation, while also providing numerous co-benefits of value to the local populations.
